The Art of Rap Review

The Art of Rap Review

I watched Ice T’s Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap docu at the Pathe Arena premiere yesterday. The visuals and city shots were high quality, the freestyles ill and line-up crazy.

It featured interviews with some greats like Bambaataa, KRS, Chuck D, Eminem, Nas, Mos Def, Raekwon, Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel, Rakim and more. It covered hip hop history and writing techniques as T travelled from coast to coast. There were some classic verses and statements spoken and I’m glad I’ve seen it.
Yet, it didn’t get through to me and inspire me like, for example, Rhyme and Reason or Freestyle did. Still I can’t explain what it is exactly I miss in this quite historical piece of video compilation. The trailer had me pretty psyched, so maybe I had my hopes up too high.

If you haven’t peeped it just yet, you can already check out some clips from YouTube below.
And if you have, can anybody fill me in? Who’s seen it, and what were your thoughts?
