Today I was introduced to what is the suggested list of artists whose new music is banned, blacklisted from airplay on BET. Apparently it has been around the web since 2005, patently upsetting Hiphoppas for the continuous lacking representation, actual boycotting of constructive content and BETs agenda, though its legitimacy is debatable.

An official response or source was never given yet my thought was this; regardless of its authenticity and original purpose; it’s a great list, a compact but impressive index of dope Hip Hop artists. Call me a stargazer but I see how we can take our advantage of this list, and turn the negative into a positive.

If you’re just discovering Hip Hop music and looking for a lead to wether start video playing, playlist assembling or record digging; here you go!

Still a nice range of styles, from KRS to Mos Def, the people listed below are – besides ‘irrelevant’ to the BET public – all talented, conscious and unique individuals with flow and a vocab and a passion for life, the arts and the culture. If like me you listen to fine beats and rhymes to vibe to, work to and stimulate your happiness and brainpower; really, look no further.

Now here’s the full BETs Banned Artist List, along with two sample tracks to illustrate the point.

Recognize the realness? If you’ve been down with Hip Hop, you’ll know most of the list but you can still get back to it, share it and make sure to support these artists with views, shares, purchases, exposure and appreciation. BET (and basically every other mainstream media outlet) sure as hell won’t.

Since it’s out there, we might as well let it serve a purpose, right?
